Salmonella & E coli prevention

January 17, 2009

In recent years, the American public has become increasingly alarmed at the escalating occurrences of potentially deadly bacteria that contaminate food products—all too often these days—specifically, Salmonella Typhimurium and Escherichia Coli…commonly known as Salmonella and E coli.

Not only have these bacteria caused major food outbreaks, illness/death and rising public concern, they have also devastated farmers and impacted food industries at the cost of millions of dollars in lost revenue and even bankruptcy in some cases as a direct result.  You ask…”Can’t the FDA and the Food Safety Industry do something about this?”   The answer…“Yes it can, and it starts at the source”.  NatureTech Solutions, Inc. (NTS) can substantially mitigate these bacteria using proven technology and methods that have been developed, studied and perfected over the last several years.  This technology has been clinically tested by leading universities and scientific labs in the USA and throughout the world.  The concentrated solution produced (commonly known as electrolyzed water) is extremely powerful against bacteria’s and viruses, yet, benign to humans and animals.

What frustrates me is why the State and Federal governments, as well as the Food Industry, continue to drag their feet and, seemingly, make no visible attempt to acknowledge or utilize a technology that has been proven, time and again, to work so efficiently.  There are several national and international companies that produce such machines.  While the use of these electrolytic machines has gained wide acceptance in Europe and Asia, America continues to resist their use.  Why is our government so slow to protect its citizens?

NTS (an American company) manufactures the equipment that produces, on site, a liquid solution (called NEWaterã) to kill bacteria and viruses at the source…a simple, yet, highly cost effective means to attack and rid the problems caused by Salmonella and E coli.

As related and applied to food safety, this natural, eco-green product has been fully approved by USDA (meat and poultry) and FDA has no objection of its use on produce.  Even so, the food industry remains hesitant to implement this alternative and safe technology while continuing to rely on toxic chemicals…in an effort, I wonder, to protect the chemical industry.

The consumer should be angered and incensed by what is happening.  While farmers are excited at the prospect of employing this non-toxic and cost effective green technology, it seems unknowledgeable (or resistant) industry regulators are (for whatever reasons) unwilling to revise food safety regulations, adopt new methods, promote its efficacy, encourage green technology or defend the technology’s broad spectrum of application and benefit.  In spite of the apparent lack of governmental or industry support, there are more and more innovative and entrepreneurial farmers who, witnessing successful on-site testing with proven results, are recognizing the enormous value of electrolyzed water.  Further, they are now willing to embrace and implement this amazing technology on realizing how efficient and relatively inexpensive the NTS system is to implement and operate—coupled with the tremendous cost savings and convenience of being able to produce one’s own natural solutions—over that of purchasing/storing expensive, traditional toxic chemicals.  Better still, they applaud and welcome the in-depth benefits to the environment (people, animals, fields, crops, water, etc.) and the fact that the liquid solution can be easily produced on site 24/7 or on demand when needed.

For decades, the most widely common product used to kill bacteria has been…and, unfortunately, continues to be…Chlorine.  It is a harsh, chemical-based, toxic remedy that must be used with caution and stored carefully.  When applied to water treatment systems, for instance, Chlorine does not prevent bio-film build-up in water lines, as electrolyzed water does.  If untreated, water lines can become a high-risk source for a potential deadly outbreak of Legionnaires Disease.   Conversely, electrolyzed water is proven to be “naturally” safe and performs at a rate more powerful than Chlorine.  Yet, electrolyzed water is totally eco-green and non-harmful to humans, animals and earth as its only ingredients are totally natural elements…salt and water.

The following categories are examples of “where and how” electrolyzed water can be applied safely (when observing documented and varying dose ratios as recommended by NTS) to protect the food industry and consumers against massive bacterial outbreaks:

  • Livestock (cows, beef, hogs, chickens, ducks, etc.)—i.e. treating drinking water, fogging animals to rid bacteria inside (digestive tracks) and outside (external surfaces).  Specific dosing ratios provided by NTS.
  • Egg and Dairy Production—i.e. washing/rinsing eggs to remove fecal matter, sterilizing all equipment, cleaning/ sterilizing processing areas between product batches to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Produce—washing prior to packaging for distribution and grocers’ subsequent misting of produce displays to extend shelf life.
  • Processing Facilities—washing/sterilizing all equipment and processing areas—including cutting boards, mixing utensils, conveyer lines, floors and walls.  Fogging of processing rooms, chillers and air handling coils. Spraying of meat and poultry carcasses prior to distribution.

Thankfully, there IS an answer!  NTS solutions attack and kill bacteria at the source to not only resolve food contamination issues, but to decrease and control such occurrences—whether the cause originates from within or beyond our borders.  Further, use of this phenomenal technology greatly minimizes monetary damages, mitigates risk management and reduces health issues related to major food safety crises.  Prevention is the obvious answer and real cure rather than endure the mounting and compounding cost factors, inconvenience and waste that are routinely generated by regulatory agencies at the expense of crop and livestock farmers, processors, distributors, grocers and tax payers.  In the end, though, a vast majority of unwarranted costs are simply passed along to (and penalize) the consumer needlessly, case after case.  If consumers had a real choice, there’s no question they would prefer the “penalties” were applied to a long-term investiture in sound ways and means that would provide them with a great return on their investment in the form of reliable protection and confidence.

There’s even more to meet the eye about currently available food safety and consumer protection products.  In addition to the NTS green technology process described above, that sanitizes food prior to distribution, are you aware there is also a remarkable micro-technology (in place and immediately available) to “track, trace and authenticate” food shipments not only through America’s “farm to fork” process, but this system can also transcend to track food imports from foreign markets?  Created and developed to identify the origin and movement of products and shipments in general, this futuristic technology is especially applicable to food products moving along the food chain.  This American system has the ability to accurately pinpoint the location and/or source of a problem when an instance occurs—within hours…not weeks or months later—all without penalizing a whole industry or subjecting the population to needless safety concerns or potential health hazards.

While stick-on produce labels have been government mandated to identify country of origin, this “band-aid” approach fails miserably and is incapable of providing comprehensive, meaningful and immediate information as it is light years behind the here and now, state of the art, “track, trace and authenticate” micro-system currently available.  Available, of course, IF our government agencies and the food industry councils really were interested to implement “tracking” for the simple sake of American consumer safety—let alone possibly think it should be included in Homeland Security’s arsenal for national protection against potential bio-terrorism concerns targeting our food and water supply.  Some food for thought!

At any rate, I am sure you have noticed that the John Q. Public seems to get stuck paying the price tag (in one form or another) for others’ mistakes…usually in higher prices, surcharges or taxes.  Whether it concerns product recalls, food outbreaks, stimulus packages or bailouts…the cost somehow trickles down to the public who gets to bear the burden without any substantial relief.  Enough is enough!!  It is time for consumers to demand their officials be accountable or replace them at the first opportunity.  With the new administration’s view on “change” and “yes, we can”, please be sure to contact your local, state and federal representatives to let them know exactly what you want “changed“ about the unacceptable lack of food safety, toxic chemical food washes, ecological damage, poor sanitation, cross-contamination of foods during processing and/or transportation, etc.  As always, you are invited to submit your comments and share your opinions with other readers of this blog.

Until next time, NTS continues to “protect people and food…naturally”.
